THE Kano Emirate Council has pledged holistic support to the State Ministry of Health and its agencies to improve healthcare services and promote the wellbeing of citizens across the state.
The 16th Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, gave the assurance when he received officials of the ministry on a courtesy visit to his palace.
This is contained in a statement by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Nabilusi Abubakar-Kofar-Na’isa on Tuesday in Kano.
The Emir commended the Kano State Government for strengthening the healthcare sector.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded, particularly in reducing maternal mortality across the state.
The monarch stressed the need for continuous collaboration between traditional institutions and the health sector to safeguard lives.
He directed District Heads, Village Heads, and Ward Heads across the emirate to continue mobilising residents to visit healthcare facilities for regular check-ups and proper medical care.
“Community participation and awareness remain key to achieving better health outcomes,” he said.
During the visit, Commissioner for Health Dr Abubakar Labaran-Yusuf said the visit was to brief the Emir on the ministry’s achievements, especially in reducing maternal and child deaths in Kano state.
Represented by the Director-General, Primary Healthcare Management Board, Prof. Salisu Ahmad-Ibrahim, the commissioner said the state government had established 99 malnutrition treatment centers across the state.
He disclosed that with support from development partners, government procured Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) worth over ₦500 million for treating malnourished children.
Labaran-Yusuf urged the emirate council to intensify public enlightenment on proper nutrition and healthy feeding practices, especially for pregnant women, to curb child malnutrition.
Executive Secretary, KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, said the clinic in the Emir’s palace had been selected as one of the facilities to benefit from the state’s health intervention programme for vulnerable and less privileged citizens.
He expressed delight that many patients at the facility were already benefiting from the scheme.
The delegation included Prof. Salisu Ahmad-Ibrahim, Dr Rahila Aliyu-Muktar, Director of Medical Services, Dr Shehu Abdullahi, Director of Public Health and Disease Control, and Dr Ibrahim Aliyu-Gano, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics.
Others, he said, were Muhammad Nuruddeen-Yahya, Director of Manpower, Dr Sa’adatu Saleh, Pharmacist Salisu Hashim, and Incident Manager Dr Abdullahi Sa’ad, among other senior officials.
The visit underscored the commitment of the Kano State Government and the Kano Emirate Council to strengthening healthcare delivery and improving citizens’ wellbeing. (NAN)
