After a hectic series of marathon meetings between Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, former National Chairman of the APC, Dr Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, and other stakeholders, the main contender in the race for Kano North Senatorial District, Muhammad Tijjani Gwarzo, has stepped down for the incumbent senator, Barau Jibrin.
The contest between Jibrin and Gwarzo had stirred the hornet’s nest in Kano political cycle, with the duo fighting a no-surrender battle to occupy the Northern Senatorial District seat. However, the persistent and dogged stance of Governor Yusuf finally resulted in a reconciliatory position.
Speaking while stepping down, Muhammad Tijjani Gwarzo, a former Minister of Housing and former Deputy Governor, said he took the decision for the interest of peace and to help the APC win its elections in all positions.
He said, “After a series of stakeholders’ meetings and the intervention of our leader, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and other leaders, I’m pleased to announce my stepping down for my brother, Senator Barau Jibrin.”
Gwarzo emphasized that he was stepping down to ensure that the APC remains a united family that will help it win elections from top to bottom. He commended President Tinubu for his fatherly role and also thanked Governor Yusuf.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, while responding, commended Governor Yusuf for showing leadership in ending the contest debacle, and also saluted Ganduje and other leaders for their roles.
He assured that the APC would remain one family in Kano and would ensure the victory of President Tinubu, Governor Yusuf, and candidates for all other positions.
