THE Joint Labour Movement in Osun on Thursday urged workers in the state to vote en masse for the re-election of Gov. Ademola Adeleke in the Aug. 15 governorship election.
The movement, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), made the call while addressing workers at the State House of Assembly in Osogbo.
Speaking, the Osun NLC Chairman, Mr Christopher Arapasopo, urged workers to mobilise at least 25 votes each from their families and associates in support of the governor.
Arapasopo said the call was in recognition of Adeleke’s efforts in improving workers’ welfare, including the payment of the minimum wage, noting that the gesture deserved reciprocal support.
He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a free, fair and credible election, stressing that votes must count.
According to him, the outcome of the election will shape the 2027 general elections.
Similarly, the NULGE Chairman, Mr Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, said the governor deserved re-election in view of his worker-friendly policies.
The JNC Chairman, Mr Adediran Olalekan, also called on workers to reciprocate the governor’s goodwill by ensuring his victory at the polls.
In the same vein, the TUC Chairman urged workers to turn out en masse on election day and vote for the governor, describing his re-election as key to sustaining ongoing reforms.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr Adewale Egbedun, commended the labour movement for its support for the governor and his administration.
Egbedun, represented by Mr Adewumi Adeyemi (Obokun Constituency), urged workers to remain steadfast in their support and to actively participate in the electoral process.
Adeyemi further encouraged them to vote and remain at polling units to monitor proceedings and ensure that their votes are counted. (NAN)
