Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered consignments of high-potency illicit drugs concealed inside water purifier machines shipped into Lagos from the Netherlands.
The agency said the consignments, made up mainly of three kilogrammes of ketamine and 199 grammes of MDMA, popularly known as ecstasy pills, were discovered at a courier company in Lagos on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
According to the NDLEA, the drugs were carefully hidden inside the machines in an attempt to beat security checks before operatives intercepted and seized them.

In Kaduna State, NDLEA operatives arrested a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, alongside another suspect, 38-year-old Salomi Ezekiel, after a major drug seizure in the Gonin Gora area of the state.
The agency said the suspects were arrested on Sunday, May 24, following the discovery of 100 jumbo bags of skunk in their home.
The seized substance had a gross weight of 1,246 kilogrammes.
The operation formed part of renewed efforts by the agency to cut off drug supply chains across the country and arrest those allegedly involved in the movement and storage of illicit substances.
In another operation in Kaduna State on the same day, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna highway by Jere intercepted a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa.
The agency said Musa was found with 380 rounds of military-grade ammunition, RLA 7.62mm, which he was allegedly taking to Katsina State.
The NDLEA said the suspect and the exhibit had been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and action.
Meanwhile, operatives of the agency in Niger State, acting on credible intelligence, raided a warehouse at Gidan Kukah in Bosso Local Government Area.
During the raid, which took place on Wednesday, May 27, officers recovered 457 kilogrammes of skunk from the warehouse.
A 46-year-old suspect, Godwin Zakka, was later arrested at his residence in Gbeganu, Minna, in connection with the seizure.
The agency said investigations were ongoing to determine the full network behind the recovered substances.
In Enugu State, NDLEA operatives on patrol along the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway intercepted a commercial vehicle marked JAY-158-YF on Thursday, May 28.
The vehicle, which was said to be heading to Taraba State, was searched by the operatives.
The search led to the recovery of 22,000 pills of tramadol, 100 ampoules of pentazocine and 200 grammes of bromazepam.
A suspect, identified as James Maigari Wisdom, was arrested in connection with the seizure.
Agency Continues Anti-drug Sensitisation
The NDLEA said its commands and formations across the country also continued activities under its War Against Drug Abuse campaign during the week.
The sensitisation activities were carried out in schools, worship centres, workplaces and communities.
Some of the places visited included Government Secondary School, Adiabo, Cross River State; St Patrick’s Memorial College, Wukari, Taraba State; Roman Catholic Mission Nursery and Primary School, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State; and Kings Secondary School, Amawbia, Anambra State.
The agency said the campaign was part of efforts to reduce drug demand while enforcement operations continued against traffickers and dealers.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers and personnel of the Kaduna, Niger and Enugu commands, as well as those of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation, for the arrests and seizures.
Marwa praised the officers for balancing drug supply reduction operations with public enlightenment under the WADA campaign.
He also charged them and their colleagues across the country not to rest on their laurels, saying the fight against illicit drugs required sustained commitment.
