Nigerian reality TV star, Kiddwaya, has stated that his father played a role in the practice of democracy in Nigeria.
He explained that his father does not speak about his achievements and only shares stories about his deeds when asked.
The billionaire son claimed he had recently become aware of his father’s involvement in the recognition of Banana Island.
He said, “Banana Island is the most expensive, luxurious piece of land in Africa. It’s quite small, on the island in Lagos, I never knew he discovered it until he made that statement on BBC. My dad is very like that. He doesn’t blow his own trumpet. When you ask him, he will tell you. And I have another fascinating story that I just found out. He hasn’t told anybody. I didn’t know that my dad was one of the reasons that Nigeria had a democracy. He was very close with the Army back in the day when we had military rule.”
While highlighting the practice of democracy in the country, Kiddwaya also explained that his father influenced a former military leader to adopt the country’s system of government.
“When Sani Abacha died, my dad’s close friend was the second in command, so his friend became president. So he came to the house, I wasn’t born then, he came to the house and said look, Terry, I’m president now, I don’t really know what to do, what should we do. And he said, give it to democracy. Like, make it a democracy so the people can vote. When he told me that, I was like, dad you should tell people this. He is one of the reasons Nigeria has a democracy…” he added.
