No fewer than 7,116 Lagos State public servants underwent training in the past one year as part of efforts to enhance their productivity and improve service delivery.
The state Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr Afolabi Ayantayo, disclosed this at the 2026 Lagos State Ministerial Press Briefing to commemorate the second year of second term of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The event held at Alausa, Ikeja on Monday.
Ayantayo said the training programmes comprised 26 generic courses and 28 specialised skill-gap trainings designed to strengthen capacities of the workers.
According to him, the ministry also processed 744 training sign-off requests for 148 ministries, departments and agencies within the period under review.
He said the state government remained committed to continuous manpower development and institutional efficiency through strategic capacity-building initiatives.
“The ministry has continued to prioritise human capital development to improve competence, productivity and efficiency within the Lagos State Public Service.
“In the last one year, 7,116 officers participated in 54 different training programmes comprising generic and specialised courses aimed at bridging identified skill gaps,” he said.
The commissioner added that the state government, in collaboration with private sector partners, trained 1,000 officers on accelerated digital training programmes to improve digital literacy, workplace productivity and global certification readiness.
Ayantayo said the initiative was in line with the government’s digital transformation agenda and efforts to equip public servants with modern technological skills.
He also said the state maintained industrial harmony through effective engagements with workers’ unions and other stakeholders.
According to him, about 300 union leaders and stakeholders were trained locally to strengthen labour relations and sustain peaceful industrial practices across the state.
“Our administration has continued to enjoy industrial peace because disputes involving labour unions are resolved amicably through dialogue and continuous engagement,” he said.
He said that 470 resident doctors in the state received 2025 residency training allowance amounting to more than N456 million.
The commissioner said the payment underscored the government’s commitment to supporting healthcare professionals and improving the state’s health sector workforce. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
