The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, has urged Nigerians to uphold faith in God and demonstrate patriotism as Muslims celebrate Eid al-Adha.
Issa-Onilu said the celebration provides an opportunity for citizens to recommit themselves to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and collective responsibility towards national development.
In a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Communication and Media, Paul Odenyi, the NOA boss noted that the lessons of Eid al-Adha remain relevant to Nigeria’s present challenges.
According to him, sacrifice, discipline and compassion are essential virtues needed to strengthen national unity, stability and growth.
He encouraged Muslims to emulate the devotion and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim by extending acts of kindness, charity and support to the less privileged during the festive period.
Issa-Onilu also called on Nigerians to avoid actions capable of threatening public peace and unity, stressing the need to promote dialogue, tolerance and responsible conduct before, during and after the celebrations.
The NOA Director-General further appealed to community leaders, religious organisations and youth groups to continue supporting government initiatives aimed at promoting national values and civic responsibility.
He said sustainable national development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, collective responsibility and shared commitment to the progress of the country.
Issa-Onilu reaffirmed the commitment of the agency to sustaining public enlightenment campaigns targeted at promoting patriotism, unity and active citizen participation in nation-building.
He expressed optimism that the spirit of sacrifice and togetherness associated with Eid al-Adha would inspire Nigerians to work collectively for a better and more prosperous nation.
