Former Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Mustapha Bala Dawaki, has defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dawaki, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa constituency in Kano State, left the ruling party just a week after losing his bid to secure a return ticket through consensus in the APC.

His defection was confirmed on Monday by Saifullahi Hassan, media aide to one of the NDC leaders and Kwankwasiyya figure, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

According to him, the move took place at Kwankwaso’s Miller Road residence in Kano.

“Leader [Kwankwaso] has today accepted the former Chief of Staff to the APC national Chairman, Mustapha Bala Dawaki (Mai Gidan Ruwa) to the NDC Kwankwasiyya,” Kwankwaso’s aide wrote on his verified Facebook page.

The defection comes as the NDC is currently concluding processes to allocate party tickets across the state through consensus arrangements.

However, it remains unclear whether Dawaki will be granted an automatic ticket to contest under the party.
