I Won’t Disappoint You; Bakare-Odunuga Assures Surulere after Defeating Elliot in APC Primaries

The All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer for the 2027 Lagos House of Assembly Election, Barakat Bakare-Odunuga, has assured members of the Surulere Constituency I of not disappointing them at the chamber where she hopes to replace lawmaker, Desmond Elliot.

NPO Reported that Bakare-Odunuga had on Wednesday denied Elliot a return ticket to the Assembly as she defeated the incumbent lawmaker at the APC State Assembly Primaries.

The lawyer turned politician recorded a landslide victory total of 11,385 votes as against Elliot’s 270 votes.

Moments before the announcement of the result, Elliot had declared his withdrawal from the race.

The Nollywood actor turned politician who fell out of favour with the Chief of Staff to the President and political leader of the constituency, Femi Gbajabiamila, alleged intimidation and assault of his supporters at the voting centres.

He lost the poll to Bakare-Odunuga with a wide margin despite his allegations.

Meanwhile, in her appreciation post shared on her X handle on Thursday, Bakare-Odunuga, thanked members of the constituency who trooped out to vote for her.

She acknowledged their early arrival at their respect wards ahead of the election.

“Hello Surulereans, I want to say thank you very much. I’m overwhelmed, excited, and grateful. I don’t even know what to say.

“Thank you so much for leaving your work, your shops, your family. From early in the morning, you’ve been out at the arena since 9am.

“Accreditation took about three to four hours and voting started about 1pm. And within like an hour, we concluded voting.

“Thank you very much again. I emerged the flagbearer of the party.

“I don’t even know how to thank you enough from the leaders to the youths, women, artisan, market women, and spare parts sellers as well. Thank you so much I’m grateful.” The APC chieftain said.

She pledged not to disappoint the constituency while urging them to also come out en masse to support the candidacy of Dr. Obafemi Hamzat for Lagos State Governor as well as President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“I promise not to disappoint you. Your vote will not be waste.

“I’m hoping that tomorrow, we will all come out in our thousands the way we did today to support the candidacy of Obafemi Kadiri Hamzat and also on Saturday to support the candidacy of President Bola Tinubu.” She said.
