Nollywood actress Funke Akindele isn’t done grieving the loss of her junior colleague, Alex Ekubo.
Kemi Filani reported on Tuesday that the light-skinned actor had passed away on Monday, May 11th, after a battle with Cancer and was 41 years old.
Earlier on, Funke Akindele said she tried to reach out to him one more time but believed the actor knew the best. She prayed for his soul to rest in peace and promised to cherish and remember the good times they shared.
Still grieving, she expressed how hard it is, especially since she has been going through all the messages she sent him. She noted how the deceased kept telling her he was fine.
Akindele said she kept sending voice notes and wanted to see him, but he ghosted her.

When Alex turned 37 in 2023, Funke penned an heartfelt note to him, calling him ‘paddy mi’ which means my close pal and then noted that the celebrant was special to her. She offered a prayer for Alex and expressed gratitude for the affection he had demonstrated towards her.
Alex displayed significant support for Funke Akindele during the election period, even when other celebrities chose to ignore the matter. As a result, he gained the affection of the actress, who never attempts to conceal her love for him.
On Internation Women’s Day, Ekubo hailed Funke as a heroine because she is consistent. He said Funke is a woman who rises more than she has fallen. Alex noted that Funke’s life reminds him daily that failure doesn’t define a person’s life. While listing out her unique qualities, Alex noted that Funke has remained consistent for decades in her career an indication that she knows how to strategize to attain success without letting any situation tear her down.
Last year, netizens expressed concern about Alex’s absence on social media. The light-skinned actor hasn’t been active on Instagram since 2024.
Speaking up for him, Oma Nnadi had addressed those sending her messages about him. Oma told them to stop looking for Alex as he is healthy, well and fine. She noted how everyone must not be on social media.
The talented actor was later spotted in a video with some kids.
