A political red card has been issued to Lagos State House of Assembly member, Desmond Elliot, by his political godfather, Femi Gbajabiamila, President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff.

Elliot’s offence stems from his role last year in backing a group of lawmakers who attempted to impeach the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa. Though Obasa was later reinstated after the lawmakers reversed their decision, those involved in the failed impeachment plot are now facing political repercussions.

Gbajabiamila revealed that he almost lost his position as Chief of Staff to President Tinubu due to Desmond Elliott’s actions during the crisis.

According to Gbajabiamila, President Tinubu summoned him to his residence in Abuja at the height of the saga and said: “I hear this Desmond is your boy, the one we gave you.”

When Gbajabiamila confirmed the relationship, the President reportedly added that Elliot was among those causing problems in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The Chief of Staff also disclosed that he received a call from the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) over Elliott’s alleged involvement in the crisis.

Gbajabiamila said it was only his strong and cordial relationship with President Tinubu that saved him from being sacked.

He stated that because of this incident, he will not support Desmond Elliot’s return to the Lagos State House of Assembly.
