Pull-out parade for Prof. Pius Olanrewaju, outgoing President of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), during a valedictory ceremony held in his honour on Thursday in Lagos
GOV. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commended Prof. Pius Olanrewaju for strengthening professionalism, ethics and institutional relevance at the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).
Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Abayomi Oluyomi, gave the commendation on Thursday at Olanrewaju’s valedictory ceremony held at Bankers House, Victoria Island, Lagos.
He said Olanrewaju’s administration modernised the institute through digital learning reforms, improved examination processes and stronger stakeholder engagement across the banking industry.
According to the governor, quality leadership at CIBN contributes significantly to economic growth and public confidence in the financial system, especially amid recapitalisation, cybersecurity concerns, artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
Sanwo-Olu congratulated Olanrewaju on his successful tenure and urged the incoming CIBN President, Mr Dele Alabi, to sustain the institute’s role in promoting professionalism and ethical banking leadership.
Also, Chief Wole Olanipekun, Chairman of the occasion, praised Olanrewaju for his exemplary leadership and contributions to the banking profession.
Olanipekun urged members of the institute to support the incoming administration, noting that leadership thrives on continuity and cooperation.
Similarly, Mr Oliver Alawuba, Chairman of the Body of Banks’ CEOs, described Olanrewaju’s leadership as transformative.
Alawuba said the outgoing president provided credible leadership at a time the industry faced recapitalisation, technology disruption and macroeconomic challenges.
He added that Olanrewaju worked closely with stakeholders, including the National Assembly, the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria, to resolve industry issues such as the prolonged USSD dispute.
Also, Lady Ada Chukwudozie, Chairman of Keystone Bank, said Olanrewaju led the institute with “intellect, dignity, stability and vision.”
Prof. Afolarin Ojewole, Vice-Chancellor of Babcock University, commended him for promoting professional certification and skills development among students and young professionals.
President of the Body of Past Presidents, CIBN, Mr Ralph Osayameh, also described Olanrewaju’s tenure as one marked by integrity, innovation and stronger collaboration between academia and the banking industry.
Highlights of the event included a valedictory speech by Olanrewaju, presentation of a book authored by him, awards presentation and a pull-out parade. (NAN)
