Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has shared details about the end of his marriage, explaining that he went through a deep emotional low that changed how he showed up in his home and relationship.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that in an interview with Chude Jideonwo, the veteran actor said during a hard phase in his life, he lost his usual drive and excitement for life.
According to him, this change affected his marriage, as he became fully focused on caring for his child while struggling with his own inner state. He noted that he spent most of his time at home and poured all his energy into fatherhood, even though his partner was affected by the shift in his personality and attention.
The actor explained that over time, he felt he became more present as a father than as a husband. This change created distance in the marriage because his wife could no longer relate to the man she had married before his emotional struggles began.
He also shared that he was open with her about what he was going through. He told her he did not know how long it would take for him to feel like himself again and return to his normal state. He added that while he asked for patience, he also understood her position if she could not wait.
In the end, she chose to walk away, and both of them ended the marriage on peaceful terms and continued separately as friends.
He said: “I lost my spark, and my wife suffered for it. And then I became an obsessive dad. I gave everything in me to my son. I was a proper stay-at-home dad.
“I became an excellent father but a woeful husband. After a while, she said, “I can’t find the man I married anymore.” I told her, “I don’t know what it’d take for me to heal and bring myself back.
“If you want to wait for me, I’d appreciate it. And if you can’t, I would understand. She said she couldn’t, so we shook hands and parted as friends.”
