Residents of a community in Kwara State were thrown into panic after suspected bandits reportedly abducted the wives and children of a traditional ruler during a violent overnight attack that also targeted a police station in the area.
According to reports from local sources, the armed attackers stormed the community in large numbers, firing gunshots sporadically to scare residents before invading the residence linked to the monarch. During the attack, the gunmen allegedly whisked away the monarch’s wives and children to an unknown destination.
Witnesses said the incident created confusion across the community as many residents fled their homes for safety while others hid indoors throughout the operation.
Sources further disclosed that the attackers later moved toward a nearby police station where they reportedly opened fire on security operatives. The extent of casualties from the assault on the police facility was still unclear at the time of filing this report, although properties were said to have been damaged during the exchange.
Community members described the incident as one of the most frightening attacks witnessed in recent months, calling on security agencies and the government to intensify efforts against rising insecurity in the region.
Security operatives were reportedly deployed to the area shortly after the incident, while efforts have begun to rescue the kidnapped victims and track down the attackers.
