The Civil Liberty Organisation (CLO) has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, to strictly adhere to its internal rules and due process in order to promote accountability and good governance.
Mr Steve Aluko, Director of CLO, a ciivil society organisation, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Jos.
Aluko said the party should learn to abide by its internal timetable and avoid distorting scheduled election dates, noting that such actions could be unfavourable to some party members.
“As a leading party, APC must learn to comply with its own rules so that it can serve as an example for other political parties to emulate,” he said.
He further urged the APC leadership to address the issue of different individuals announcing varying results at different times, describing the situation as misleading and capable of undermining confidence in the process.
Aluko also called on the party to embrace technology by introducing electronic voting systems that would allow members to cast their votes digitally and have greater confidence in the electoral process.(NAN)(http://www.nannews.ng)
