The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the dismantling of a dangerous armed robbery gang that had been terrorizing residents and motorcycle operators in the Midim community of Abak Local Government Area.

Command spokesperson DSP Timfon John disclosed in a statement issued in Uyo on Thursday that operatives acted on credible intelligence in the early hours of the day, swiftly mobilizing to raid the gang’s hideout.

Upon sighting the approaching police team, the suspects attempted to escape, but one was successfully apprehended while two others fled into nearby bushland. Efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects are reportedly ongoing.

The suspect arrested was identified as Uduak Vincent, a 28-year-old male and native of Ikot Ifang Village in Midim clan, Abak LGA.

A number of items were recovered from him, including a locally made pistol, a small axe, a knife, suspected charms believed to be used for criminal fortification, six wraps of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp, two mobile phones, three bottles of ice, three rings, an Airtel SIM card, and a multi-coloured handbag.

According to the command, the syndicate had been specializing in robbing unsuspecting motorcycle riders at gunpoint within the Midim clan and its surrounding areas.

Commissioner of Police CP Baba Mohammed Azare reaffirmed the command’s resolve to rid Akwa Ibom State of criminal elements, issuing a stern warning to violent offenders to either turn away from crime or face firm and decisive action from law enforcement.
