The African Democratic Congress on Thursday celebrated a judgement by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, saying the decision strengthens democracy and gives the party clear direction as it looks towards the 2027 general elections.
The party, in a press release issued on Thursday by ADC National Media Frontiers and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Honourable Muhammed MJG GKAF, said the ruling settled issues in its leadership dispute.
The court, in a unanimous decision, affirmed David Mark and his team as the legitimate leaders of the party.
Members of the ADC saw the outcome as a moment of relief and renewed hope.
They welcomed the decision and noted that the judgement has removed uncertainty within the party and restored confidence among members and supporters across the country.
“The outcome represents a strong and encouraging victory for all loyal members and supporters of the party,” the statement said.
The statement also maintained that the decision “validates the current leadership and strengthens confidence in the rule of law and internal democracy within the party
The party explained that the court directed that the matter be returned to the Federal High Court for further proceedings.
They said that this step shows that due legal process is still ongoing and will lead to a final resolution.
Following the ruling, the party said it has started moves to restore its recognised leadership on the Independent National Electoral Commission portal.
This action, according to the party, is in line with the court’s affirmation and is necessary for proper party administration.
Looking ahead, the party linked the judgement to its broader democratic goals.
The ADC said the ruling has positioned it to move forward with unity and focus as political activities gradually build toward 2027.
The statement read, “The ADC remains committed to unity, progress, and a democratic future for Nigeria.”
The party stressed that respect for the rule of law will continue to guide its actions.
The ADC also congratulated its members for their patience during the dispute, urging them to stay committed and support the leadership as it works to strengthen the party.
As it stands now, this development is expected to help the ADC stabilise internally and prepare more effectively for future elections, with party leaders now focusing on building trust and expanding their base nationwide.
