Officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the military have said ongoing joint investigations are responsible for the continued detention of some suspects linked to the alleged coup plot.
The officials who spoke with Daily Trust disclosed that investigations are yet to be concluded for several detainees, delaying their arraignment.
A security source explained that authorities could not proceed with charges against suspects whose investigations were still incomplete.
He said, “Joint investigations are still ongoing. We can’t just charge the ones we have not finished investigating. We’ve concluded an investigation on those seven people we charged.”
When asked about the timeline for concluding the probe, the official said it remained uncertain due to the complexity of the case.
He said, “This is an issue that borders on national security, so thorough investigations have to be conducted.
“It is important that the investigators take their time.”
More Suspects May Face Charges
The officials indicated that additional suspects would be charged once investigations are completed, suggesting that the scope of the case could widen.
The development comes as the Federal Government is set to arraign six defendants before the Federal High Court in Abuja over the alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu.
Those to be arraigned include retired Major General Mohammed Ibrahim Gana, retired Naval Captain Erasmus Ochegobia Victor, Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Kashim Goni, and Abdulkadir Sani.
