The Kano State command of the Nigeria Police Force has foiled a violent clash involving suspected rival ‘Yan Daba’ groups in the Gyadi-Gyadi area of the state, arresting six suspects in the process.

The police said their swift intervention restored calm and prevented a further breakdown of law and order in the area.

PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the incident, which occurred around 1:20 pm on Monday, was disclosed in a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa.

According to the statement, the police received a distress call indicating that suspected thugs had mobilised for a confrontation in Gyadi-Gyadi Quarters.

Patrol teams were immediately deployed to the scene, where officers met the hoodlums already engaged in a violent clash.

The command revealed that the violence led to the vandalisation of an ambulance, while the suspects also attempted to attack other locations.

“The thugs were promptly confronted by the police. However, they later regrouped and attacked police officers with dangerous weapons and stones,” the statement read.

Despite the resistance, the police said operatives acted professionally and successfully repelled the attack, forcing the suspects to flee toward the Farm Centre Market.

The fleeing hoodlums reportedly attempted to break into shops and loot goods at the market.

However, reinforcement teams were swiftly mobilised to the area, where the suspects were dispersed and six individuals apprehended.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended officers of the Farm Centre Division and reinforcement teams for their gallantry and professionalism.

“Their swift response prevented further breakdown of law and order and loss of property,” Bakori stated.

He warned that the command would not tolerate any form of thuggery, ‘Yan Daba activities, or disturbances of public peace in the state.

Bakori also called on parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against engaging in criminal acts.

“Anyone found fomenting trouble will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” he added.

The command disclosed that investigations were ongoing to apprehend other suspects who escaped and to identify those behind the clash.

It also commended residents who provided timely information, urging members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to security agencies through the nearest police station or emergency lines.
