The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the arrest and detention of a police officer accused of extorting a motorist in the Idimu area of Lagos State.
This followed a viral video circulating online in which a driver alleged that the police officer stopped him despite presenting valid vehicle documents.
The motorist said the officer disputed the colour of his car, insisting it was “grey” rather than “ash” as recorded in the registration papers.
According to the driver, the officer allegedly threatened to arrest him over the discrepancy and demanded N30,000, which was later reduced to N10,000 after negotiations.
In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, the police confirmed that the officer involved had been identified and taken into custody, adding that disciplinary proceedings had commenced.

The NPF also assured the public that the outcome of the investigation would be made available upon completion, noting that the Force under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu maintains a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct.
The police wrote: “The officer seen in the viral video as posted by @epiccycl has been identified, arrested, detained and queried.
“The Lagos State Police Command will provide full outcome of the investigation as soon as possible.
