One person has been confirmed dead while four others sustained injuries in a lone auto crash along Ado–Iworoko Road in Ado Ekiti.
The accident, which reportedly involved five students of Ekiti State University (EKSU), was said to have been caused by overspeeding.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the Lexus vehicle, bearing registration number KRD 410 KL, rammed into a culvert along the road and somersaulted multiple times before coming to a halt.
According to witnesses, the car had a learner’s sign pasted on it, raising concerns about the driver’s level of experience. They added that the impact of the crash threw three of the occupants out of the vehicle through the windows, while one of the tyres reportedly detached during the incident.
The injured victims were immediately rushed to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
Residents and eyewitnesses have called on relevant authorities to enforce stricter measures to curb reckless driving, particularly among students plying the busy route.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
