The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has banned any screening of aspirants at the local level and directed that money given to party groups must only be used for meetings.
The decision was made on Monday at a meeting of party leaders held at the Cultural Centre in Abeokuta.
The meeting, led by the State Chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi, recorded the presence of the State Executive Committee members.
Officials from all 20 local government areas, local government chairmen, party chairmen, and 236 ward chairmen from across the state were also present.

As disclosed in a statement shared by the party on Monday, Chief Sanusi said the money recently sent to party structures must be used strictly to hold meetings at ward and local government levels.
He warned that no one should use the funds for personal needs and that the party would enforce the rule.
Sanusi maintained that details on how to collect nomination forms would be shared in due time, based on a new schedule from the party’s national office.
He also said regular meetings at the grassroots are needed to keep the party strong.
At the session, ward chairmen from Ado-Odo/Ota, Ijebu Ode, and Obafemi Owode mentioned issues pertaining to how things work on the ground.
The party’s Administrative Officer, Hon. Bankole, gave answers to the issues raised.
The Chairman of the Local Government Executive Chairmen, Dr. Mrs. Adeyemo, appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun for support to party groups at the grassroots. She urged party officers to work harder.
Also, the State Organising Secretary, Hon. Yemi Adelani, told ward and local government leaders to improve their work.
He said political appointees have been helpful but more effort is needed.
In a final decision, the party placed a total ban on any group or person screening aspirants at the local government level.
The party said anyone who does this before the state gives official rules will face strict punishment.
The statement shared read:
“A major resolution of the meeting was the outright prohibition of unauthorized screening of aspirants at the local government level.
The party leadership warned that any individual or group found conducting such exercises ahead of official guidelines from the state organ would face strict sanctions.”
