Former head of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) Faisal Shuaib has pulled out of the 2027 governorship race in Nasarawa State and declared support for Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that he made this known in Lafia after holding meetings with his supporters and key figures across the state.
He explained that his decision came after wide consultations and was based on his promise to stand by the choice of Governor Abdullahi Sule. He said leaving the race was not easy, but he chose to keep his word and support the candidate backed by the governor.
Shuaib revealed that aspirants from the western part of the state had earlier agreed to either present one candidate or accept the governor’s decision if they failed to agree. Since they could not settle on one person, they decided to follow the governor’s direction.
He admitted that the outcome was not comfortable for everyone involved but said he remained committed to the agreement reached earlier. He added that keeping his promise was more important than personal ambition.
Shuaib also spoke about the efforts and loyalty of his supporters, describing the period leading to his withdrawal as one of the hardest times in his political journey.
He urged them to stay united and support the party’s candidate in the coming election.
He pledged to work with Wadada and called for unity within the party as preparations for the election continue.
He also said his decision to step down does not mean he is leaving public service, as he remains committed to the progress of Nasarawa State and the country.
