The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has assured Nigerians and subscribers of wider coverage of news and events within and outside Nigeria.

Mr Yakubu Uba, the newly deployed Zonal Manager, Kaduna zonal office, gave the assurance while addressing staff of the office on Tuesday in Kaduna.

Uba said the recent employment and deployment of over 200 newly recruited staff, mostly reporters, by the agency was to ensure adequate and effective coverage of news and events across the nation and beyond.

According to him, the measure by the Managing Director, Malam Ali M. Ali, is in line with the agency’s mission and vision of developing capacity for quick and efficient delivery of accurate, reliable, comprehensive and balanced information for its varied subscribers.

He urged staff to be more committed to investigative reports, particularly in promoting peace and development journalism.

He also urged them to ensure adequate coverage of critical sectors at all levels.

“While we enlighten the public and stakeholders on government policies and programmes, we also need to report their impacts and get feedback from the grassroots.

“That’s why we have district offices to ensure all categories of citizens have a say in nation building,” Uba said.

He further admonished the staff to be truthful and objective in carrying out their duty as the “watchdog of the society” without prejudice to public and national interest.
