Mrs Remi Odunsi, an aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Kosofe Federal Constituency in Lagos State, has pledged to empower 10,000 youths with digital and entrepreneurial skills.
Odunsi, a foremost philanthropist and corporate leader, made the commitment on Monday in Abuja, while declaring her interest to contest the House of Representatives seat in the 2027 elections.
She said the training, anchored on her seven-point agenda for the constituency, was aimed at equipping the youth with life skills and improving livelihoods, which was central to development.
The founder of Eridan Group said she would push for improved access to finance for women-owned businesses, alongside better healthcare services for women and children, through the sponsorship of relevant legislation.
Odunsi pledged to push for practical food security initiatives to improve everyday access to affordable nutrition for families, while championing Federal Government infrastructure investment in Kosofe’s major markets.
She further said she would lead the formalisation of 3,000 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), linking them to credit and digital commerce infrastructure, among other initiatives.
“Kosofe has the people, the commercial energy and the geographic position to be something remarkable.
“What it has needed is representation that matches its potential. I am a woman you can trust.
“Kosofe’s best chapter has not been written yet. I am asking for the opportunity to help write it,” she said.
The aspirant said serving in the House of Representatives would provide her the platform to scale up her community development initiatives and effectively represent her constituents.
“I have been doing this work for years without holding public office. Imagine what becomes possible when someone with genuine passion for service and a heart for the people is elected into the National Assembly.
“If we are to transform lives at scale in Kosofe Federal Constituency, we must have a seat at the table, particularly in the National Assembly, where laws are made and policies are shaped.
“This is why I am in the race for the House of Representatives,” she said.
Odunsi said as a community development advocate, she spearheaded skills acquisition and empowerment programmes that impacted more than 4,000 beneficiaries across Ketu, Ikeja and Epe in 2023.
“I also partnered with Lotus Bank to train and provide grants to market women through the Street Business School initiative in 2024.
“Through my Threefold Impact” initiative, I have installed solar-powered boreholes across Lagos, Ogun and Ibadan, supported school renovations and reached over 5,000 families through annual food distribution programmes.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Odunsi, a graduate of Management and Accounting and certified accountant, is a recipient of the 2023 Yessiey Philanthropist of the Year Award.
The chief executive officer of Eridan Group was recognised for her outstanding philanthropic leadership in funding women-led startups and delivering scalable community development projects.
She is a seasoned management executive with relevant experience in the banking, insurance, automobile, real estate and consumer goods industries.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
