Nigerian singer Lojay has shared how his mindset about fame and relationships changed after he became successful in the music industry.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the artiste said he once believed that becoming a pop star would give him the freedom to be involved with many women. He explained that this idea was common for him at the early stage of his journey, especially before he fully entered the spotlight.
Speaking during an appearance on the I Said What I Said podcast, the singer said his thinking later shifted when he understood what it takes to build a lasting career. According to him, being surrounded by attention from many women made him realise the need for self-control rather than excess.
He said the music industry comes with many distractions, and artists are often exposed to different temptations. However, he explained that not everything available should be pursued, adding that discipline plays a major role in staying focused.
Lojay added that when he began to see the level of attention he was getting, he understood that managing it properly was important for his future. He said that having many people reaching out at the same time made it clear that self-discipline was necessary if he wanted to grow and remain relevant for a long time.
“There is a lot of temptation in the music industry. You will see a lot of things, but you are not meant to touch. I used to think I would frolic with a lot of ladies because there are babes everywhere. But when you have about 100 girls talking to you, that is when you need to cultivate discipline.
“I realised if you want a long career like the Big 3, you have to stay away from too many girls,” he said.
The singer also spoke about his experience after moving from being an upcoming act to gaining wider recognition. He said some of the lifestyles he once admired from a distance did not look as appealing when he became part of the mainstream scene.
He explained that many people outside the industry may think artistes live without limits, but according to him, there is a strong need for caution. He said musicians are careful about how they behave because their public image matters.
