Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has played down a viral slogan suggesting he would serve only one term in office following his defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He dismissed the trending assertion recently while addressing a group in a video recording.
The incumbent Governor of Kano State was reacting to the Hausa ‘Falle Daya’ (One term) slogan directed at him across several social media platforms.
Yusuf recently joined the APC from the NNPP amidst a political crisis involving his estranged political godfather, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who has since pitched his tent with another party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Announcing his defection, the Governor stated his decision was taken “in the best interest of the people of Kano State”.

Prior to his defection, Yusuf resigned from the NNPP due to what he termed “deepening internal crises” and “prolonged leadership disputes.”
However, while responding to the threat to his second-term bid, Yusuf insisted that he would serve only one term with the NNPP, and his second term would be served under the APC.
He added that it is the candidate of the ADC—Kwankwaso’s new party—who will fail to secure even a single term.
He said: “Actually, it is only one term in the NNPP party. We will serve the second term in the APC.
“As for the ADC party that they have returned to, it will not even complete one term—not ever.”
