A civil society group, the Community Structure Foundation for Good Governance. CSF, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to reconsider any plans to contest the 2027 general elections and instead take on a statesman role of focusing on mentoring younger leaders.
In a press statement jointly signed by D.B. Gambo, Nat’l Coord. CSF, Okechukwu Chikwendu, Nat’l Secretary, A.S. Manari N.O.S., CSF, the group stated that Nigeria is at a critical point where citizens are demanding credible leadership and a renewed national direction.
It urged Atiku to “rise above personal ambition” and contribute to nation-building by guiding a new generation of political actors.
According to CSF, the country will benefit more from experienced leaders who are willing to support emerging voices rather than remain in active political contests. The group stressed that such a move would help strengthen democratic growth and promote long-term stability.
The statement also pointed to what it described as a growing public sentiment for a new political alignment ahead of the next election cycle.
It noted that many Nigerians are expressing support for a possible alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, describing it as a potential pathway for national renewal.
“This is not just about electoral politics,” the group said. “It reflects a deeper desire among Nigerians to move beyond past challenges and build a more accountable and forward-looking future.”
CSF also urged Atiku to listen to the concerns of citizens and seize the opportunity to shape his legacy through mentorship, unity, and service. It argued that stepping aside voluntarily would demonstrate leadership and commitment to the broader national interest.
The call comes amid early political realignments and conversations ahead of the 2027 elections, as stakeholders continue to debate the direction of leadership and the future of Nigerian democracy.
