The Republic of Ghana has expressed concern over the escalating security situation in Mali and announced the suspension of its trade activities in the Sahel region.
In a Monday statement issued by the Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government condemned the coordinated Saturday attack on several military positions in Mali, which resulted in the killing of the Malian Minister of Defence, General Sadio Camara.
The statement reads, “The Government of the Republic of Ghana expresses concern over the escalating security situation in the Sahel region, and in particular the most recent coordinated terrorist attacks carried out on Saturday, 25″h April, 2026, on several military positions in Mali, including the capital Bamako, which has resulted in the demise of the Minister of Defence, General Sadio Camara as well as some military personnel and civilians.”
The Ghanaian government extends its condolences to the People of Mali at this tragic turn of events, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
The Ghanain authority said that “violent extremism must have no place in our world, and we must step up collective efforts to end this horour.”
Foreign Ministry said that Ghanaians living in the jurisdiction are advised to exercise caution and limit non-essential movements, urging them to maintain regular contact with the Embassy of Ghana in Bamako.
The Ministry also suspends all trading activities saying, ‘As the Govemment of Mali takes necessary actions to control the situation, Ghanaian traders and drivers who ply the route for trading activities are advised to suspend movements until further notice.”
The Ministry disclosed that Govemment of Ghana is working in close collaboration with relevant Malian authorities and would provide updates to facilitate the resumption of trading activities in due course.
“The Govemnment of Ghana reiterates its solidarity with the Govemment of Mali and assures Ghanaian nationals that their security, safety and well-being remain paramount,” the statement concluded
