A former Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Mimiko made his decision known in a letter dated April 10, 2026, and addressed to the chairman of Ward 7 in Ondo West Local Government Area.

The former Governor explained that growing speculation about his political status made it necessary to clarify his position, adding that he had been largely absent from party activities in recent times.

“I am tendering my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, effective from April 10, 2026.

“As I have been somewhat distanced from party activities, I wish to put it on record that I am no longer a member of the PDP,” he said.

Mimiko emphasized that his decision was taken “without animosity toward anyone.”

Confirming the development, Mimiko’s former Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, said the resignation letter had been submitted but did not provide further details.

In other news, a former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has criticised politicians involved in anti-party activities, declaring that they lack integrity.

PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Suswam, during an interview on ARISE News on Monday, said politicians must take clear positions rather than attempt to operate across party lines.

He said, “If any person feels that he wants to contest an election against the incumbent government, and he’s in APC, and he’s going to attend a PDP meeting, that person, for me, is outrightly disqualified from even an attempt because he has no integrity.

“If you have integrity, you must stand on something. If you can stand on something and you’re putting one leg in, one leg out, then it means that, no, you can’t rely upon this integrity.”

Speaking on his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Suswam said his decision was part of a broader political realignment driven by conviction and public interest rather than personal gain.
