Final Blow For PDP In Sokoto Assembly As Last Lawmaker Defects To ADC

Sokoto State House of Assembly

The Peoples Democratic Party has lost its remaining seat in the Sokoto State House of Assembly after Abdullahi Randa, who represents Tureta Constituency, defected to the Africa Democratic Congress.

PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that his decision was made known during Tuesday’s plenary session when the Speaker, Tukur Bala, read his defection letter before other lawmakers. The development brings an end to the party’s presence in the state assembly.

After the sitting, Randa explained that ongoing internal problems within the PDP influenced his move.

According to him, the crisis within the party has dragged on for too long and has affected how it operates, especially as an opposition group.

He said he had to reconsider his position after observing that the party was no longer functioning in a way that supports his political goals.

His exit follows a series of similar moves by other lawmakers in the state. Earlier in April, seven members of the assembly left the PDP and joined the ADC. Around the same time, another lawmaker from Shagari Constituency switched to the All Progressives Congress.

With the latest change, the composition of the Sokoto State House of Assembly has shifted completely. The APC now holds the majority with 22 members, while the ADC has eight lawmakers. The PDP, which once had a presence in the assembly, no longer has any representative.
