The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of a subsisting court judgment affirming the expulsion of Senator Samuel Anyanwu, demanding that his recognition as the party’s National Secretary be withdrawn.
In a letter addressed to the INEC Chairman through its solicitors, Chief Chris Uche (SAN) & Co., the PDP said Anyanwu ceased to be a member and officer of the party following a judgment delivered by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on January 12, 2026.
The party explained that its National Disciplinary Committee had earlier recommended Anyanwu’s expulsion over alleged anti-party activities, a decision that was subsequently ratified by its leadership.
Although Anyanwu has filed an appeal against the ruling, the PDP argued that the action does not amount to a stay of execution.
According to the party, the judgment remains valid and binding until set aside by a higher court.
Citing constitutional provisions, the PDP maintained that INEC is obligated to enforce the ruling.
The party criticised INEC for continuing to recognise Anyanwu despite the court’s decision, describing the action as an affront to the judiciary.
It demanded that the commission expunge all recognitions accorded to him since January 12, including official correspondence, and cease further dealings with him in any capacity.
The PDP also called for the immediate removal of his name from INEC’s official records.
The party warned that failure by INEC to comply could trigger legal action, including contempt proceedings against the commission’s leadership.
It expressed hope that the electoral body would act swiftly to avoid what it described as a growing perception of enabling instability within opposition parties.
