In an effort to improve welfare and workplace protection throughout the Federal Civil Service, the Federal Government has institutionalized a new compensation structure for civil servants who sustain work-related injuries, occupational diseases, impairments, or death while doing their duties.
This was revealed on Thursday in a statement signed by Eno Olotu, the Director of Press at the Federation’s Office of the Head of the Civil Service.
According to the release, Didi Walson-Jack, the HCSF, revealed this information at the opening of the Employees’ Compensation Scheme Help Desk in Abuja, characterizing the program as a significant welfare intervention for public employees.
She claims that the Employees’ Compensation Scheme is now fully operationalized to provide prompt compensation and assistance for government employees impacted by workplace dangers.
According to Walson-Jack, “the Employees’ Compensation Scheme is a crucial intervention to provide prompt compensation and support for Civil Servants affected by work-related diseases, injuries, disabilities, or death.”
She clarified that the plan is intended to increase protection for employees and their families while enhancing current staff welfare initiatives, such as the Group Life Assurance Scheme.

The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation signed a Memorandum of Understanding as part of the institutional framework for implementation to ensure the program’s smooth execution.
Speaking at the function, the Managing Director of NSITF, Oluwaseyi Faleye, described the scheme as a major step toward establishing a structured and transparent compensation system for federal workers.
Faleye said, “The ECS is a major step toward institutionalising structured care and protection for Civil Servants, supported by a transparent, payroll-driven system.”
He added that the newly inaugurated ECS Help Desk would serve as a dedicated platform for information dissemination, claims processing support, and feedback management.

According to the Federal Government, the implementation is a major step in strengthening workforce protection and creating a public service that is more effective, responsive, and welfare-driven.
