Nigerian singer Eedris Abdulkareem has responded to critics over his visit to Benin, Edo State.
Kemi Filani reported that Eedris Abdulkareem had visited the State for a tour with the Governor, who showcased projects he had executed there.
While giving a speech, Abdulkareem said he wanted to see for himself whether the Governor is truly working and has been blown away by the Governor’s work. He promised indigenes of the state that within the next year or two, they will see more of his achievements and urged those in the diaspora to come home and see what the governor is doing.
His statement didn’t sit well with netizens who filthily dragged him.
Defending himself, Abdulkareem, in a new song, said his visit to Benin was about the opening of his friend’s club because it was closed due to his performance there a few days earlier.
Last year, Israel DMW, who hails from Edo State, called on the Governor to resign with immediate effect. He noted that the state hasn’t had peace since he took over, and revealed that the ancestors were angry with him over the pure robbery in the state.
During the gubernatorial election, Mercy Johnson faced massive backlash for campaigning for Monday Okpebholo. The movie star, whose husband is a politician in Edo State, was seen at a political rally, encouraging women to talk to their husbands and children about voting for the candidate.
Also, during the election, Davido questioned the police directive for Edo citizens, telling them to return home immediately after casting their votes. He declared the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the most dangerous institution in Nigeria and admonished Edo indigenes not to bow to it.
Explaining to those who queried him for interfering in the election, he revealed that his mother is from Edo and, as such, he was interested in the election. He also knocked INEC, calling them a shame as he prayed for God to help the citizens.
Tackling him, Cynthia Morgan, who also hails from Edo, noted how he claims his mother is from Edo State, yet she has never seen him visit his family house, nor has he mentioned the village or family she is from. She begged him to leave the Edo people alone and made him know that he wasn’t from Edo, and neither did he know the struggles of an average Edo man or woman.
