Delta State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, has stated that the actions of the police officer who shot a suspect to death in the state can only be viewed from a “spiritual” angle, arguing that it was not a “normal occurrence”.
He made this known on Wednesday while fielding questions during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.
Edafe was reacting to the recent extra-judicial killing of a suspect, identified as Mene Ogidi, by Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman in Effurun, Delta State.
The PPRO described the incident as perhaps the most difficult moment for the command since he assumed the role of spokesperson six years ago.

While admitting that “spirituality” is not a tenable defence in the line of duty, he noted that he was unable to find any other rational explanation for the officer’s actions.
Speaking during the interview, Edafe said: “I will start with the issue at hand, which is a very sad issue.
“In my six years in public relations, this is my most difficult moment, because having an incident that cannot be explained is very difficult. There is no explanation for this.
“Regarding that policeman, I just don’t know what to say was wrong with him.
“The police cannot attribute problems to spirituality, but that may not be far from the truth, because that’s the only explanation one can give for what he did.”
