…marks an important milestone in relations between China, West African States
THE Government of the People’s Republic of China has officially handed over the newly completed, state-of-the-art ECOWAS Commission headquarters complex, delivered under the China-Aid framework, marking a significant milestone in regional integration and international cooperation.
The handover ceremony, held on April 28, 2026, at the new headquarters site in Abuja, Nigeria, brought together high-level representatives of the Government of Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China, alongside senior officials of the ECOWAS Commission. Speaking at the event, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E Dr. Oumar Alieu Touray, described the project as a historic achievement and a powerful symbol of regional solidarity, shared progress, and strengthened international partnership which reflects a shared commitment to sustainable development and institutional strengthening across the region.
