Nigeria’s newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has pledged to vigorously advance the country’s interests on the global stage following her appointment by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement shared via her verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Odumegwu-Ojukwu described her elevation as both a privilege and a call to higher national service. She confirmed that her appointment took effect on 29 April 2026, expressing deep appreciation to the President for entrusting her with the critical diplomatic portfolio.
“I am truly honoured to step into this new role and express my profound appreciation to the President. Your Excellency, I am deeply humbled by your trust and confidence in my abilities,” she wrote.
Bianca Ojukwu emphasised her readiness to justify the confidence reposed in her, noting that her focus would be on strengthening Nigeria’s foreign policy direction in line with the administration’s priorities.
Central to her agenda, she said, would be advancing the government’s “4D Foreign Policy” framework under the Renewed Hope Agenda, alongside reinforcing citizen diplomacy.
Bianca Ojukwu also reassured Nigerians of her unwavering commitment to national service, promising to promote and protect the country’s interests in international affairs. “I reaffirm to the good people of Nigeria my unwavering commitment to advancing our national interests on the global stage,” she stated.
Her appointment follows the resignation of former Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuff Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue his political ambition of contesting the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State.
