A former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has stepped down from the 2027 Lagos State governorship contest under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jandor announced his decision in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, just a day after purchasing the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms.
He said his withdrawal followed the endorsement of Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat by key party figures, including President Bola Tinubu.
“Following the endorsement of Dr Kadiri Hamzat by our Leader, the President of Nigeria, and Leaders of our party in Lagos, and in recognition of the prevailing realities within the political landscape of our great party, I have decided to withdraw from the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial race,” he said.
He emphasised that the move was made to preserve unity within the party, describing it as a principled decision rather than a retreat.
“In line with this, I hereby fully align myself with the position and direction of Mr. President regarding the Lagos State gubernatorial process. Party supremacy and strategic alignment are critical to sustaining the gains we have collectively built over the years.
“This decision is not borne out of weakness or a lack of capacity, but out of strength, discipline, and a deep respect for party cohesion and unity,” he added.
Jandor reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged continued support for its direction in Lagos, urging members and supporters to remain united ahead of the election.
He also thanked members of the Lagos4Lagos Movement for their backing, describing the group as one committed to fairness, inclusion, and improved governance.
Jandor had earlier said he was willing to support a consensus candidate if the APC adopts that option ahead of the 2027 Lagos governorship election.
