Sean Preston Spears is making a subtle change to his public identity, which is a huge moment for his pop star mother.
The 20-year-old son of Britney Spears and Kevin Federline recently updated his Instagram handle, removing “Federline” and adding “Spears.”
For a brief time, Sean’s account appeared under the name “Sean P Spears.” By Friday, the handle had changed again to include only his first and middle names.
There is no sign that Sean has legally changed his name.
Sean and his younger brother, Jayden James Federline, have remained largely out of the spotlight in recent years. But the family has become more visible again in recent months, with Britney sharing several photos and videos of time spent with her sons.
Last month, Britney posted a video featuring Jayden after returning to Instagram following her March DUI arrest in California.
“Thank you guys for all your support… spending time with family and friends is such a blessing !!!” she wrote.
Britney became one of the biggest pop stars in the world with hits including “Baby One More Time”, “Toxic”, and “Circus.” Sean’s father, Kevin Federline, rose to fame as a dancer before marrying Spears in 2004. The pair divorced in 2007.
The former couple spent years battling over child support following their 2007 divorce. Spears was ordered to pay Federline support for their sons, with the amount increasing in 2018 after Federline requested more money. Reports at the time said Spears was paying around $40,000 a month. The payments ended after both sons reached adulthood, despite Federline’s efforts to extend them.
