Brandy is opening up about the complicated place she and her brother, Ray J, occupy today, just days after the release of her memoir, Phases.
In a new interview with Parade tied to the book’s launch, the Grammy-winning singer said she has chosen to keep some distance from her younger brother as she protects her own peace.
“There is distance right now,” Brandy said. “There are a few things that he’s been doing in the public eye that I don’t condone, and I just feel like loving him from afar right now is best for me and my peace.”
The singer, 47, still made clear that the separation has not changed how deeply she cares for him.
“My life with Ray and my connection with him is all throughout the book, and my love for him never wavers,” she said.
Brandy’s comments arrive after Ray J spent much of 2024 and 2025 speaking publicly about tension within the family. The reality star and entrepreneur previously said he felt “exiled” and admitted that he and Brandy were no longer as close as they once were. The siblings then appeared to reconnect late last year when Ray J joined Brandy onstage during her The Boy Is Mine Tour with Monica.
Ray J recently made headlines after threatening rappers Shyne and Ma$e after they both openly discussed allegedly dating Brandy at the same time back in the 90s.
