Agent, 46, docked over alleged N2. 3m fraud

THE police on Monday, dragged an agent, Olalekan Ojediran, before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ court in Ibadan, for allegedly defrauding a prospective land buyer to the tune of N2.3 million.

The defendant who resides at Ido town in Ibadan, is standing trial on a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Oluwafemi Ajayi, alleged that the defendant committed the offence in June 2024.

He was alleged to have fraudulently obtained the sum of N2.3million from one Mrs Kajobola Olanireti, with a promise of selling to her, four plots of land located at Laito Village in Ido.

Ajayi alleged that the defendant failed to allocate the said piece of land to the complainant.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant stole the money instead of delivering on his promise.

The offence contravenes the provisions of sections 390(6) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. T. Oyediji, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She consequently, adjourned the case until May 12, for hearing. NAN
