The African Democratic Congress (ADC) House of Representatives aspirant for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in Anambra State, Ambassador Lotanna Ikebunwa, has dismissed recent endorsements of President Bola Tinubu by some state governors.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Ikebunwa described the endorsements as politically insignificant.
Speaking during the inauguration of the ADC Good Governance Initiative at Anaedo Hall in Nnewi, Ikebunwa said the endorsements do not reflect the will of Nigerians.
“The endorsement of Tinubu by governors is personal to them because the people are not with them. Nigerians are clamouring for change,” he said.
He added that many citizens are distancing themselves from the ruling party structures due to economic hardship.
The former Students’ Union Government president expressed confidence in his chances ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said he enjoys strong support from traders, youths, women and other stakeholders across the constituency.
Ikebunwa faulted the performance of the current representative, alleging poor representation and lack of development.
“We are lagging behind in everything. There is no clean water, no federal presence, and no meaningful support for the business community in Nnewi,” he said.
He argued that the constituency has fallen behind others in terms of empowerment programmes and federal presence.
The aspirant also disclosed that he had supported the party by providing and furnishing ward offices to strengthen its grassroots operations.
According to him, the initiative has helped increase membership and improve coordination within the party at the local level.
At the event, the chairman of the occasion, Chief Ibeokonkwo Michael, expressed optimism about Ikebunwa’s ambition.
He said he believes the aspirant would secure the ADC ticket and represent the constituency at the National Assembly in 2027.
