Umar said the tenure of Prof. Mohammed-Rabiu Hassan as Acting Executive Director was extended from April 17 to Oct. 17.

He said the extension followed a performance review and modest achievements recorded during the initial six-month emergency period at the institute.

According to him, the Vice-Chancellor urged Hassan not to relent in repositioning the institute for greater impact.

“Ahmed expressed confidence that the acting Executive Director would continue to work with his team to achieve NAPRI’s mandate by implementing ongoing reforms.”

Umar added that the Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the challenges facing the institute and advised Hassan to work closely with the NAPRI Reform Committee.

He said the committee would continue to monitor, guide and evaluate progress in line with set targets for the emergency period.

Umar added that the vice-chancellor also directed that staff should be held accountable, with strict adherence to performance standards and timelines.

The vice-chancellor also warned that the university would not tolerate acts of indifference, sabotage or resistance to ongoing reforms.

On Tanko’s reappointment, Umar said the Vice-Chancellor urged him to consolidate on achievements recorded so far and refocus on his responsibilities.

He added that the Reform Committee would closely monitor his performance and that of the institute during the extension period.

According to Umar, the ongoing reforms are aimed at repositioning NAPRI for effective delivery of its core mandates in support of the Federal Government’s livestock development agenda. (NAN)
