The lawmaker representing Kano South Senatorial District, Senator Abdurahman Sulaiman Kawu Sumaila, has stated that the rejection of his Ramadan rice gifts was political blackmail.

PrimeTimes Nigeria understands that some politicians were seen in a viral video circulating on social media returning five bags of rice, which they alleged had been given to them by Sumaila.

They claimed the five bags were intended for the entire Albasu Local Government Area of the Kano South Senatorial District.

However, reacting to the alleged rejection of the Ramadan gift via a statement, Sumaila said the people in the video were playing politics.

He insisted that they were short-changed, adding that each LGA received 500 bags of rice.

According to him, “We gave each and every LGA 500 bags, and we attended to groups and individuals ,which made it almost 15,000 bags. Somebody short-changed them along the line.”

He added, “They choose to go to press with a view to blackmailing us. We will deal with the situation. It’s all politics.

“Anytime you deal with humans, you are bound to encounter such a problem. It’s normal as a human being to have encountered such a situation in life but that won’t deter me from doing welfare to my constituents.”
