Following a reconciliation with his political group, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike declared that “there is no sin in politics” and said Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara had done nothing wrong.
According to Wike, Fubara’s choice to rejoin the political family that gave birth to him was a wise move that would bolster attempts to rally support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 reelection.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, spoke on Tuesday while addressing journalists after inspecting ongoing road projects across the FCT.
His remarks came days after Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, publicly declared support for Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, endorsed President Tinubu for a second term, and urged his supporters to align with the coalition.
Responding to suggestions that Fubara had been forgiven following their prolonged political feud, Wike dismissed the notion of “sin” in politics, arguing that there is nothing wrong with someone recognising a mistake and correcting course, since politics itself is not a sin what matters, he said, is acknowledging when one has taken the wrong path and making the right decision.
Wike recalled that he had predicted Fubara’s return during his last media chat, insisting the governor had no choice but to return to his political roots.
He said he had already indicated that Fubara would eventually return to the political family that produced him, and now that the governor had made that declaration publicly, he welcomed him, stressing that their doors remain open for everyone to work together, as there was no better alternative for moving the state forward collectively.
The minister added that Fubara’s public reconciliation would strengthen President Tinubu’s re-election bid, noting that with the governor now publicly stating his return to his political roots, they would work together to help deliver the votes needed for Tinubu’s re-election.
Fubara had, during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Rivien Medical Industry project in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State last week, announced his return to Wike’s political family.
Declaring his support for the Rainbow Coalition, endorsing Tinubu for a second term, and urging his supporters to back all of the coalition’s candidates, saying the era of political conflict in the state was over and it was time to move forward.
Speaking further on infrastructure development in the FCT, Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the ISEX Road Corridor and the Apo-Karshi Road, saying both projects were progressing as planned.
He said the contractor handling the ISEX Road had assured the administration that the project would be ready for commissioning in December, provided adequate funding is released.
Wike stressed that the administration remained committed to completing inherited projects rather than abandoning them, arguing that genuine leadership involves continuing projects vital to the development of the city rather than focusing solely on new initiatives.
He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work by contractors, adding that it was now the government’s responsibility to fulfil its own obligations to enable the projects to be completed on schedule.
