Registrars of federal, state and private universities across the country will converge on Abuja next week for the 4th Annual Workshop and 79th Business Meeting of the Association of Nigerian University Registrars (ARNU), with discussions focusing on technological transformation and the future of university administration in Nigeria.
The six-day programme, scheduled for July 6 to 11, will hold at the National Universities Commission (NUC) Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.
According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of ARNU, Mrs. Atinuke A. Oguntunde, the workshop is themed: “Nigerian Universities in the Era of Technological Transformation: Challenges, Opportunities, and Pathways to Sustainable Growth.”
The association said the gathering would provide a platform for university registrars to deliberate on critical issues affecting university governance, administration and sustainable development in Nigeria’s higher education sector.
It noted that the theme reflects the need for universities to adapt to rapid technological changes while leveraging emerging opportunities to improve institutional efficiency, innovation and global competitiveness.
Among the issues slated for discussion are the funding and autonomy of Nigerian universities, the role of universities in advancing the National Data Protection Programme, leadership and management of universities from the perspective of vice-chancellors, as well as strategies for improving performance systems to drive sustainable growth in tertiary institutions.
The workshop will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions and technical sessions to be delivered by leading academics, university administrators and policy experts.
Expected speakers include the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu; the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia, Prof. Mohammed Musa Kida; former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi; the National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, Dr. Vincent Olatunji; and the Chief Executive Officer of Edusage Consult Limited, Dr. Florence Oluchi Sunny Ibeh.
ARNU said its 79th Business Meeting would also afford members the opportunity to review the association’s activities, adopt key resolutions and chart strategic directions for strengthening university administration in Nigeria.
According to the association, the event underscores its commitment to enhancing institutional capacity and promoting efficient university administration to support sustainable growth in the nation’s higher education sector.
