The 2027 African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has called for the arrest and prosecution of the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, over the five NELAN engineers who went missing under his administration as Ebonyi State governor.
Sowore made the call while addressing newsmen at the Abuja Federal High Court on Monday.
The human rights activist held that the alleged crimes of Umahi are catching up with him as more scandals against him surfaces.
“Five Engineers disappeared under his watch and they have not been found.
“When the pressure came, they provided remains, bones of people they claimed were the engineers and when they did the DNA test, they found out that they were not the same people who died.
“What I’m glad happened to this particular man called Umahi is that his admittance that he is the most powerful person allowed his other victims to come out.
“And that is why we always warn people that you can commit crimes and get away with it at some point, but you can never get away with it at all times.
“Now his crimes are catching up with him.” Sowore said.
The AAC presidential candidate also called out Umahi over alleged detention of a family since 2025 as well the Ebonyi airport project.
“Apart from the five NELAN engineers that are missing, there is also a family that has been in jail since 2025 that he ordered to be sent to prison in Ebonyi.
“Don’t forget that this same Umahi constructed one of the most expensive airports where even a drone doesn’t land today in Ebonyi. His crimes are catching up with, and he must answer for them.” He said.
Sowore thereafter demanded arrest and probe of Umahi.
“We are not asking that he should be fired alone. Umahi must be arrested and investigated, tried, and appropriately dealt with. We know more information will come out.
“You can’t just say that people disappeared because there is communal clash. Ebonyi is not the only place where there is communal clash in Nigeria. We will still find out what happened to them.” He said.
