The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, has confirmed the death of two persons in a road crash at Ogbere Junction along the Ogbere–J4 corridor.
This was disclosed by the Sector Public Education Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi, in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Thursday.
Odunsi said the crash occurred at about 5:10 a.m. and involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC 660 XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus with an unknown registration number.
He said four adult males were involved in the crash, with two persons confirmed dead, while the two others escaped unhurt.
According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that the crash was caused by route violation and excessive speeding.
He added that the impact of the collision caused the Peugeot J5 bus to catch fire, leaving its front section completely burnt.
Odunsi said FRSC rescue personnel arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately commenced traffic management.
He added that the affected lane was diverted to an alternative carriageway to ensure the free flow of traffic while the wreckage was cleared.
“The remains of the deceased were evacuated by the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division, Ogbere Division, and deposited at the mortuary,” he said.
According to him, the Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists to obey traffic regulations to prevent avoidable crashes.
“We sympathise with the families of the deceased and urge all motorists to avoid speeding and route violations, especially during periods of poor visibility and on wet road surfaces.
“These dangerous driving behaviours remain major causes of fatal road crashes, and all road users must drive responsibly and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey,” he said.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment and prompt rescue operations.
