As State Govt Sues for Peace, Calm

At least two people have been confirmed dead in the fatal clash that broke out between the Hausa and Yoruba communities in Ibadan, Oyo state.
NPO Reported that the violent clash which occurred at Ojoo area of the Oyo capital in the early hour of Wednesday ensued after Yoruba commercial tricycle operator was allegedly stabbed to death by a Hausa man.
The unrest led to the burning of several shops and properties with many members from both groups reportedly injured.
Coupled with the deceased tricyclist, another yet-to-be identified person was reportedly killed during the clash.
The state’s Deputy Governor, Chief Bayo Lawal, confirmed the death of the two people.
Lawal, who visited the scene on behalf of Governor Seyi Makinde, condemned the violence.
He urged residents to remain peaceful and allow security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident while the state government takes appropriate action.
The deputy governor assured that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
Also speaking during the deputy governor’s visit to the community, the Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Honorable Akinwole Ayobami Akinleye assured residents that the government is working closely with security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property around the area.
