President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate expansion of road infrastructure to more communities across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), declaring that his administration will no longer tolerate abandoned projects in Abuja.
The President gave the directive on Thursday while commissioning the rehabilitated Old Keffi Road, a major route linking Kado Fish Market to Dei-Dei Junction through Life Camp.
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu also approved the construction of the Kaba–Kagini–Zaudna road after residents displayed banners at the event highlighting the poor condition of roads in their communities.
He said the approval reflected his administration’s commitment to extending development beyond the city centre to underserved districts and area councils.
“We are not slowing down. Across the FCT, from the centre to the area councils, we are building for inclusion, for safety and for growth. Every district deserves access. Every citizen deserves to feel the impact of government where they are,” Tinubu said.
The President described the completion of the Old Keffi Road as proof that the era of abandoned infrastructure projects in the nation’s capital had ended.
“When we assumed office under the Renewed Hope Agenda, we told Nigerians the era of abandoned projects in Abuja was over. Some doubted. Today, doubt has no ground to stand on,” he said.
According to him, the road rehabilitation followed a report by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on the deteriorating condition of the corridor serving Kado, Saburi, Gwagwa, Karmo, Idu and Dei-Dei.
Tinubu said the Federal Executive Council approved the project and awarded it to Lubrik Construction Company Limited based on its track record.
“Under this government, we do not reward patronage. We reward competence. If you deliver, you get more work. If you fail, you are out,” he said.
The President noted that the rehabilitated road would improve connectivity, reduce travel time and transportation costs, and enhance commercial activities across the affected communities.
He added that the installation of streetlights under the Light Up Abuja initiative would strengthen security and support economic activities at night.
Tinubu also commended Wike for driving infrastructure development across the FCT, saying visible progress was being recorded in both the city centre and satellite communities.
“‘Mr. Projects’ is not a slogan. It is the record of roads opened, lights installed and deadlines met,” he said.
He urged residents to protect public infrastructure by preventing vandalism and keeping drainage channels free of refuse.
Earlier, Wike said the rehabilitation of the Old Keffi Road fulfilled a long-standing promise made to residents and traders who had repeatedly appealed for the project after the completion of the Saburi Road.
He recalled that during the Area Council election campaign, traders told him to inform the President that completing the road would earn him their lasting appreciation.
During the event, Wike invited residents of Kaba, Kagini and Zaudna, who attended with banners requesting road construction in their communities, and announced that Tinubu had immediately approved the project.
He said the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority had been directed to mobilise Lubrik Construction Company to commence work without delay.
According to the minister, the decision reflects the Renewed Hope Agenda’s commitment to restoring hope through infrastructure development and improving access to underserved communities.
